Speech & Public Speaking
Introduces students to the tips of effective public speaking.  Students will choose a topic and become his/her own speech writer.  Lessons and activities are designed to train children to become observant, build confidence for speaking in public, and apply the basic speaking skills through practice.

Research & Media Presentation
Students will research a topic of their choice and in the process they will learn essential research skills, such as, note taking, using graphic organizers, and producing summaries.  Based on their research, they will then create a slide project and give a 2-min oral presentation.

An Engaging Story
Participants will learn about the story components, such as the plot, character, setting, and conflict.  Applying what they have learned, they will create an interesting story and tell it in front of an audience.  Through discussion and practice, they will hone their skills to engage the audience by using various tones of voice, expression, and body language.  It’s all about becoming a great storyteller!

 A Scavenger Hunt
In the process of creating a game of “scavenger hunt”, students will learn the basics of expository writing.  Using different types of graphic organizers to classify information and present ideas, students learn to explain details while sharing the fun of the game.

Linguistic Intelligence

Second and third languages – Most of our kids know a second language in our diverse community. But are they proficient in it? What about learning more of them, Hindi and Chinese, during our kids summer camp? What about considering taking a third one and choosing from Korean, Spanish, and Latin. Logical-mathematical Intelligence

Mathematical problems in daily life – Expand the learning of math from our kids’ daily life. What does collecting coupons has to do with math? Song of message – Kids will share their messages with songs. At our kids summer camp, we encourage this alternative way of communication. We let kids parade the songs they like. Our teachers will teach camps how to communicate using this value tool.

Bodily-kinesthetic Intelligence

Body Language/Message – What are human dominoes? What kind of messages will a choreographed activity convey? Kids can communicate with their body language in our kids summer camp. They will be given the opportunity to understand how people interpret these languages and see some concrete examples.

Interpersonal & Intrapersonal Intelligence:

Let the world know about me! – Kids understand themselves with a mental picture and announce to the world what they see. Our kids summer camp provides campers with ample opportunities to learn to build friendship by letting other campers who they are. Not all kids are the same and at our kids summer camp we help every student to understand and appreciate the fact that we can make friends with all kinds of people.

Naturalist Intelligence:

Science on the trail –Kids will document, differentiate, and categorize what they see on an outdoor trail. You’ll be surprised how much you have missed before. These activities go beyond the four walls of our kids summer camp and to study outdoors.

Multiple Intelligences

~ An intelligence is a terrible thing to waste, so don’t leave any of them underdeveloped! ~

There are different kinds of smart, according to Gardner’s theories of Multiple Intelligences. Schools tend to focus more on some than the others. Summer is an optimal time to discover, nurture, and actualize those less attended potentials so that your child will have the opportunity to attain a holistic and well-rounded development of all the intelligences. Gardner theorized 8 different intelligences, which include kinesthetic (body smart), linguistic (language smart), logical (number smart), interpersonal (people smart), intrapersonal (myself smart), musical (music smart), visual/spatial (picture smart), and naturalistic (nature smart).

Holistic Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to actualize your child’s multiple intelligences besides building your child’s repertoires in different specialized areas, which includes Art, Science, Lego-Robotics, Technology, and Writing. Learning activities are framed in ways that point your child to understand how their intelligences contribute to their learning, creating, and problem solving. The process will also help them make sense out of the productions, projects, and activities they participate in. Most importantly, they will be made aware of their own learning progress and the improvements they have made in each of the intelligences, through assessments, rubrics, and debriefings. All these are done in a supportive and fun-filled environment at Legend.

Numerous Options

Multiple, non-repeating weekly themes in different specialized areas are offered throughout the summer. There are numerous options available for you to choose. Take a look at the camp schedule, do a little “mix-and-match” to create a schedule that suits your child’s interests!

Camp participants are divided into lower(entering K-G1) and upper(entering G2-G4) elementary groups. For entering G5 and above , please refer to Camp Ingenious held at McClellan campus.

We want to see kids active in the summer. There will lots of organized activities this summer to develop kids’ Bodily-kinestic Intelligence. Kids will be recruited to design and implement the activities. As encouragement to their efforts, we will video-share their activities with parents and friends. The goal is to help kids understand that they can have messages come across even in movements and activities. This may help others to understand them.
